Abstract

Abstract. The concept of sustainable functioning of territories is based on the harmonious development of economic, social and environmental spheres. This approach is the basis of the approved strategy of ecologically-oriented development of Russia, which includes active introduction of "green" technologies, resource conservation, preservation of natural ecosystems, introduction of modern technologies for waste
collection and utilization, ensuring balanced development of the economy and small business in order to improve the quality of life of the country's population. Insufficiently high rates of "green" growth of the national economy are explained by the influence of a number of negative factors, an important place among which belongs to the low level of environmental culture and environmental awareness of the population of
the country. The article considers the state of work on environmental education of young people in Primorsky Krai. The analysis of scientific publications, the results of marketing research and scientific expeditions to the municipalities of Primorsky Krai allowed the authors of the article to identify the main barrier factors that reduce the level of environmental education work in educational institutions of Primorsky Krai,
insufficient coordination of environmental activities carried out in the Krai, low level of informing the youth of the region about them. The authors have developed an initial set of measures to improve the effectiveness of the Regional Interdepartmental Commission on Environmental Education, Enlightenment and Environmental Culture Education in Primorsky Krai. These studies in combination with the proposed recommendations are the basis for the development of specific practical measures to increase the level of youth involvement in environmental conservation, the development of environmental culture and environmentally responsible behavior in the younger generation, which is a prerequisite for the formation of their active citizenship aimed at improving sustainable and safe development of the region.
